Why Blue Blockers?

What is Blue Light?

Blue light is a colour in the visible light spectrum. It is a short wavelength form of light which means it produces more energy than some other wavelengths of light. Blue light falls between 400 nm (nanometers) and 495 nm on the light spectrum.

Sun used to be the only source of blue light, and natural blue light is indeed good for us, telling our body when to wake up in the morning. However, with house lights, we brought it inside, and over the past few years, we have been exposed to more and more artificial blue light in the form of digital devices such as smartphones, TVs, laptops, tablets. All digital screens emit blue light. Evening exposure to blue light at night can send signals to us telling us its daytime and to suppress melatonin production. Blue light can negatively affect your circadian rhythm – behavioral changes that follow a daily cycle and response to light and darkness, like sleeping.

Artificial blue light in the range 415 nm to 455nm has been shown in studies to lead to digital eye strain. Blue and green light between 400nm and 550nm has been shown in studies to be disruptive to melatonin production and impact our sleep, leaving you feeling tired the next day and can damage your well-being.

Why do you need blue light blocking glasses?

Blue light has been shown in studies to disrupt our sleep so it is important to block blue light between 400nm and 550nm (the melatonin disruption zone of light) to improve your sleep, before bedtime (around 2-3 hours before bed).

Our eyes are not built to naturally block this excessive level of blue light. These short, high-energy waves of light go straight through the front surface of our eyes to the retina. So, how can you protect your eyes and reduce the amount of blue light your eyes are exposed to? One solution is wearing blue blocker glasses.

The benefits of blue light blocking glasses include:

Many users of blue light blocking glasses have found that they are more productive and comfortable when wearing blue blocking lenses and have seen a reduction in their headaches and have less tired, sore eyes.

For optimal results, complete blocking of blue and green light within the 400nm to 550nm range (melatonin disruption zone) is necessary. Solar Powered Blue Light Blocking Glasses block 100% of melatonin disrupting blue and green light (from 400nm to 550nm) for optimized sleep, recovery and relaxation.
